-Raccoons belong to the family class known as “Procyonidaes” It includes the raccoons, coatis, kinkajous, olingos, olinguitos, ring-tails and cacomistles.

-Raccoons have been noted for their intelligence and memory,studies have shown that they can remember the solutions to tasks they have encountered for up to three years sometimes more.

-Raccoons will typically have two to five young, known as “kits”

 -The most obvious physical feature of the a Raccoon is the area of black coloring around the eyes. This area contrasts sharply with the surrounding face coloring. creating a look reminiscent of a “Bandits Mask”

 -Thought to be colorblind

 -Though usually nocturnal, the raccoon is sometimes active in daylight to take advantage of available food sources

-Raccoons like humans have 5 fingers and use them similarly. Their hands have non retractable claws much stronger and sharper than our nails.
